Explores the theories, practices, and policies related to race and language, and how they impact the working, teaching, and learning of English learners in multilingual and multicultural settings.
Examines the foundation of educational policy as it relates to bilingual education and program planning in grades K-12 in U.S. schools. Review English language theory, as well as state and federal policy. Prerequisite: ECLD 1560.
Provides a foundation for understanding basic concepts regarding home, school, and community collaboration. Focuses specifically on creating partnerships between diverse families, families whose children have disabilities, and community partners and schools that serve these populations. Prerequisites: ECLD 1560, EDSP 1050; or Instructor permission. Pre/Co-requisite: ECLD 2020.
A practicum opportunity for Education majors who intend to pursue the Multilingual Learner (ML) Endorsement for grades PreK-6, 7-12, or PreK-12. Assignments include weekly reflections, informal lessons, and resource building for teaching/tutoring multilingual learners. Prerequisite: ECLD 1560.
